What do you need for a 12 Volt garden system?
Before you can start installing the 12 Volt garden lighting, you must first select the appropriate supplies. The supplies you will need are listed below.
Step 1: Choose your desired lighting
Choose the suitable lighting and accessories from our wide range. For the 12 Volt garden lighting, motion sensors, smart switches, and a daylight sensor are available, among other options.
Step 2: Choose the right transformer
Because the lighting operates on 12 Volts, you will need a transformer. This converts 220 Volts (mains power) to 12 Volts (low voltage). Calculating which transformer you need is very easy. Add up all the wattages of the lights to know how many watts you will be connecting to the lighting system. Then, choose a transformer that can handle this wattage. For example, if you have a system with a total of 45 Watts, choose the 60 Watt transformer. A tip: ensure you do not use more than 75%/80% of the transformer's total capacity.
This allows you to make adjustments or add extra lights later without having to modify the transformer.Step 3: Choose the ideal main cable
After selecting the lighting and the correct transformer, you need a cable to connect the lights. You have a choice between two types of cables:
- A main cable with fixed connectors: this convenient main cable has a connector every two meters. You can connect the lighting to these connectors. Every 12 Volt garden light comes with a cable that has a connection point. You can easily connect this to the connectors on the main cable. This is a plug&play system, so you won't need any additional tools or accessories.
- A main cable without fixed connectors: besides a cable with connectors, there is also a main cable without connectors.The connectors for this cable can be ordered separately and are easy to install thanks to the click system. The advantage of this is that the connectors can be placed at any desired position on the main cable. This connector is a female connector. For example, you can place 2 connectors right next to each other if you want to place 2 lights close together. You can also leave several meters between the different connectors.
Please note for the main cable with connectors:
- To connect lights and accessories to the main cable, you need a female connector.
- To connect an extra cable (branch) or to connect main cables, you need a male connector.

Step 4: Connecting the 12-Volt garden lighting

Using the steps below, you can easily install your garden lighting without an electrician.
Step 1:Place the garden lighting in the desired location in the garden. This will help you determine the distance between the lights and the distance between the lights and the transformer.
Step 2:Lay the main cable (with or without fixed connectors) through the garden. For the cable with fixed connectors, ensure they are positioned near the lights.
Step 3 :This step only applies to the cable without fixed connectors. Attach the female connectors to the cable using the click system. Connect the female connectors near the garden lights.
Step 4 :Mount the 12 Volt transformer next to the desired power outlet (220V) and connect them. This will convert the power.
Step 5: Connect the main cable (with or without fixed connectors) to the transformer.This is plug&play, which means you do not need any other parts or supplies.
Step 6: You can optionally conceal the cables in the garden for a neater appearance. An advantage of the 12 Volt system is that the cables do not need to be buried deep. A layer of gravel or sand over the cable is sufficient.
