What is an LED lamp?
The history of an LED lamp: LED is a groundbreaking invention in the field of lighting. In 1960, the first tests were already conducted by illuminating semiconductor materials through electroluminescence (converting electrical current into light). Naturally, this was still in its infancy in the 1960s. It still needed to be tested and optimised for years. The underlying process has been made increasingly energy-efficient. Around 2006, the first energy-efficient LED lamps were introduced to the consumer market. Thus, you can imagine how long the development of LED has taken.
Why choose LED lighting?
LED lamps are a sustainable, energy-efficient and affordable alternative to conventional (incandescent) lamps. If you replace ‘traditional’ lamps with modern LED variants, you will immediately see the benefits reflected in your bills. Savings on energy costs can amount to as much as 90%! LED lighting is available in numerous types, light colours and sizes, which means virtually any conventional lamp can be easily replaced.- Efficient: LED lighting consumes far less energy than traditional incandescent bulbs, allowing you to save on your energy bill.
- Long lifespan: LED lamps can last up to 50,000 hours, which is significantly longer than incandescent or halogen lamps.
- High brightness: LED lamps deliver bright and intense light, making them ideal for illuminating a home or office.

- Sustainability: LED lamps contain no toxic substances such as mercury, making them better for the environment.
- Flicker-free: LED lighting heats up quickly and immediately delivers full light intensity. This is in contrast to other lighting techniques that require time to reach full strength and may therefore start to flicker.
How long does LED lighting last?
It is now generally known that LED lamps last many times longer than their predecessors. The lifespan of an LED lamp varies depending on the quality of the components in combination with the optimal cooling used. The lifespan therefore varies between 15,000 and 100,000 operating hours. Even very cheap LED lamps with a lifespan of 15,000 hours still last longer than an incandescent lamp, halogen lamp or energy-saving lamp.- Incandescent lamps: 1,000 hours
- Halogen lamps: 4,000 hours
- Energy-saving lamps: 15,000 hours
The difference between LED lighting and halogen lighting
There are several differences between LED lighting and halogen lighting. Below, the advantages of LED lighting compared to halogen lighting are listed.Advantages of LED lighting compared to halogen lighting:- Lower power consumption
- Long lifespan
- Contains no hazardous substances
- Low heat output
- Sustainable

Which LED lamp do I need?
LED lighting is available in various light colors. These range from light colors of:- 2200K (extra atmospheric light)
- 2700K (extra warm white)
- 3000K (warm white)
- 4000K (natural white)
- 6000K (daylight white)

- Living spaces: For general living spaces such as living rooms, bedrooms and hallways, it is recommended to opt for 30 lumens per m².
- Offices: In offices, a higher lighting level is recommended because this promotes productivity. We advise a level between 300 and 500 lumens per m².
- Kitchens and Bathrooms: For countertops, work surfaces, showering and other tasks in the kitchen or bathroom, we recommend a higher lighting level of 500 - 650 lumens per m².
- Workshops: In workshops or garages where active and detailed work is carried out, the highest lumen requirement per m² applies. We recommend selecting a level of 750 - 1000 lumens per m² here.
-
-
- Measure your space (Length x Width = ...m²)
- Determine the lux level for the space you want to illuminate. (See lux index below)
- Multiply the amount of . ... Lux X ....m² = .... Lumens
-
-
- Office of 50m² = 500 Lux X 50 m² = 25,000 lumens

Which fitting do I need?
We often receive the question of which fitting is the correct one. This depends on the fixture that you have, on which it is always indicated which fitting you need. The two main types of LED lights are E27 LED bulbs and E14 LED bulbs. In the image below, you can see the difference, the E27 fitting is wider than an E14 fitting.
- E27 LED lamps (large fitting)
- E14 LED lamps (small fitting)
- LED filament lamps (with filament)
- LED modules
- LED spots
- GU10 spots

Replacing LED Lamps
Can you replace an incandescent bulb, halogen lamp or energy-saving lamp with an LED lamp on a one-to-one basis? The answer is yes. As long as the fitting is the same, replacing the old lamp is no problem. You do not need to take any other factors into consideration. All lamps with a screw fitting can be replaced without any problems. There are exceptions with other types of LED lighting. An example is fluorescent lighting, which cannot be replaced on a one-to-one basis. Modifications to the luminaire are required for this.
