LED Drivers

LedLoket offers a wide range of LED drivers and transformers. Many different drivers are available. This is because the right choice depends on the intended purpose for which you will use the driver. Keep the following three important things in mind when purchasing an LED transformer or driver.
What output voltage do I need? 12V/24V/other.
What is the wattage of my lights? Choose the correct wattage driver.
Do I want to dim the lights with the driver? Choose a dimmable or a non-dimmable driver.

LED Drivers & Transformers

Most LED lamps must be powered or dimmed by LED drivers. Unlike halogen or incandescent lamps, dimming LED lighting is a complex process. Therefore, you cannot control an LED lamp with an “old traditional incandescent/halogen driver”. For this you need a LED driver . The LED drivers for LED lamps are available in different voltage levels:

The driver converts alternating current to constant current. It also brings the voltage level into the correct range.

What is an LED driver?

An LED driver is a device that regulates the current sent to an LED lamp or fixture so that it can function safely and efficiently.

LED Drivers LedLoket

LedLoket has a wide range of dimmable LED drivers. There are a number of factors to consider when purchasing a new LED driver.

  • Wattage of the lamp: can the LED driver handle this wattage?
  • What amperage do you need or what amperage does your current driver have?
  • What dimming technique do I need? Consider DALI dimmable or TRIAC dimmable.
  • How many drivers do I need? It is possible to connect two or more lamps to the driver. This depends on the total wattage the driver can support.
  • Is the voltage (output) of the driver suitable for the voltage of the lamp?
  • Is ventilation available? An LED driver cannot be enclosed in wool or insulation material.

Example: You have 24V LED spotlights that are dimmable. You have installed this in a home where only 230V (mains power) is available. You will then need a transformer from 230V to 24V. In addition, you will need an LED driver for dimming the 24V LED spotlights.

LED Transformers

Transformers, also referred to as converters, ensure that the power is converted to a lower voltage. For example, a 24-volt LED strip. In the home you have 220 volts (mains power). To power the LED strip, you need a transformer/converter that converts 220 volts to 24 volts. Often multiple lamps can be connected to a single transformer. The number of lamps that can be connected to one transformer depends on the wattage of the lamp and the capacity of the transformer.

Why are 24V LED strips used instead of 220V LED strips? This is done because 24V is a safer voltage to work with.Safety is of extra importance with LED strips because they are often cut to size by you as the customer.

Buying an LED Driver: what should I pay attention to?

  • What is the wattage of my lights? And what wattage transformer do I need? So that everything can be connected to a single transformer?
  • What is the voltage of my lights? For example, does 12 volts need to be converted to 230 volts or 230 volts to 12 volts?
  • Is the transformer located in a moisture-free area or not? If not, make sure to purchase a waterproof transformer.
  • Is ventilation available? Please note that a transformer should not be enclosed in insulation material.
