What are LED strips?

LED Strips
LED strips – also known as LED (light) cords or LED light strips – are long light cords with many small LED lights arranged one after the other, measured in the number of SMDs per meter. The more SMDs per meter, the smaller the distance between the individual LEDs. Most LED strips feature 30, 60 or 120 SMDs per meter.

LED strips are easy to install. You can use them inside and around your home, for example to illuminate cabinets, stairs, the kitchen, bathroom or bedroom.Additionally, they are also commonly used in large hallways (for example in hotels) or in shop windows. Naturally, a flexible LED strip is also practical in the car. The possibilities are endless!

Connecting or shortening LED strips?

LED Strips sfeerfotoWould you like an extra-long LED light strip? You can connect the strips to one another (often by means of a connector plug), allowing you to create any desired length. Would you like to shorten the LED strip? This can easily be done by cutting it. This is possible with most LED strips every 100 cm.
The cut LED light strip can be made waterproof using an end cap and then connected to the mains using the 220-230 Volt adapter. These are included as standard with the LED strips. If you wish to use the remaining section again, you will need to purchase an additional 220-230 Volt adapter.

Frequently asked questions about LED Strips

What are the advantages of LED strips compared to traditional lighting?

LED strips are energy-efficient, have a long lifespan, and provide full, instant light. They are flexible and easy to install on various surfaces, making them ideal for both decorative and functional lighting.

How do I install LED strips?

LED strips are easy to install. They come with a self-adhesive backing, allowing them to be easily stuck to a clean, dry surface. Ensure the strip is correctly connected to a suitable power supply and controller for optimal use.

Are LED strips dimmable?

Yes, many LED strips are dimmable, but this requires a compatible LED dimmer or controller. Always check if the LED strip and the power supply are suitable for dimming before you begin.

What is the difference between 12V and 24V LED strips?

The main difference between 12V and 24V LED strips is the voltage at which they operate. 24V LED strips are more efficient over longer distances because they experience less voltage drop than 12V strips. This makes them more suitable for larger installations.

How do I choose the right color temperature for LED strips?

Color temperature is measured in Kelvin (K). Warm white (approximately 2700-3000K) provides a cozy, soft light and is ideal for living spaces. Cool white (4000-6000K) is brighter and more suitable for workspaces or modern interiors. RGB LED strips offer adjustable colors for a more playful effect.

Are LED strips waterproof?

Some LED strips are waterproof and are indicated with an IP rating. An IP65 strip is splash-proof and suitable for outdoor use or damp areas such as bathrooms.

What power supply do I need for my LED strip?

The power supply you need depends on the wattage of the LED strip and its length. It is important to check the strip's specifications and choose a power supply that can provide sufficient power.

Can I shorten my LED strip myself?

Yes, many LED strips can be shortened at specially indicated places. These cutting points are clearly marked on the strip. Make sure to cut the strip at the correct point to avoid damaging it.

How much light does an LED strip produce?

This depends on the number of LEDs per meter and the type of LEDs. LED strips with more LEDs per meter (e.g., 120 per meter) produce more light than strips with fewer LEDs (e.g., 60 per meter). The light output is usually indicated in lumens per meter.

How can I connect multiple LED strips together?

Multiple LED strips can be connected using connectors or by soldering. Always ensure that the strips and connectors are compatible in terms of voltage and type, and that you use a suitable power supply for the total length of the strips.
