Dim-to-warm LED lighting
For various LED products, we are increasingly seeing that ‘dim-to-warm’ lighting is also available. In addition to single-color LED lighting, this new technology makes it possible to change the light color while dimming. Traditionally, LED lamps maintain the same color when dimmed. This doesn't necessarily make a living room or kitchen cozier. This latest technology has given rise to the ‘dim-to-warm’ function. This means that the light color becomes warmer as the lamps are dimmed. This can create the same effect as with halogen spotlights, which also become warmer in color when dimmed. Another term for ‘dim-to-warm’ is ‘dimtone’.
Dimming this type of LED lighting has a dual function:
- Dimming ‘dim-to-warm’ lighting is achieved by reducing the light intensity. This is the standard way of dimming.
- In addition to reducing the light intensity, the color temperature of the LED lighting also changes. When you dim the lights, the light becomes increasingly warmer-white.
Dim-to-Warm LED Lighting Function
With dim-to-warm spots or lamps, you can adjust the lighting completely to your preference. This allows you to set the lighting according to the time of day or the atmosphere you wish to create. With ‘dim-to-warm’, this is very easy. You don't need to change the light source; simply dim it to change the light color.
When a dim-to-warm lamp, for example a dim-to-warm GU10 LED spot or E27 lamp, is at maximum brightness, the color temperature is 3000 Kelvin. This light color is also known as warm white. When the LED spot is dimmed, the light color gradually becomes warmer, changing to 2000 Kelvin. The color temperature of 2000 Kelvin is also referred to as extra warm-white light or candlelight.
LED lighting with a light color of 3000 Kelvin (Warm White) is perfect task lighting for the kitchen or for reading the newspaper. Extra warm white light with a color temperature of 2000 Kelvin provides more ambiance and is perfect for the evening or when watching television.
